Atletico Madrid had to come from behind in the final five minutes to earn a 2-2 draw with Villarreal — with Julian Alvarez coming on following the visitors’ equaliser to make it 1-1, on the 66th minute.
Those that spoke after the game were clear the club’s prospects of a successful season in La Liga and beyond, will require a more harmonious atmosphere than the one on display at the Metropolitano last night.
Here’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak, speaking to DAZN immediately after the game:
💬 “We all need to be united. Julian is here, he’s with us in the team and while he’s with us, we’re going to support him and we want him in the best way. Unfortunately, it’s a situation that isn’t comfortable for anyone, but hopefully all that is sorted out and at the end of the season we can all be happy.”
Yes, that sounded a little non-committal to me too.
As for head coach Diego Simeone, he sounded a little more hopeful Atletico and Alvarez can still move on together:
